We know the pain of attending video conference calls and webinars when you're the victim of viewing horrible video and listening to audio you can barely understand.

No worries, we've got your back. Not only do we have the ultimate solutions, but also the reasons why we've made these recommendations.

Check out the Ultimate Zoom, Skype, Webex, and webinar webcam, microphone, and lighting equipment recommendations that we use at our desks...and yes, that's Matt's desk!

Camera

Relying on your laptop's integrated camera to be positioned in just the right place is a dream. Inevitably, it's not exactly where you want it to be positioned. With an external camera, you get some advantages that we can't live without.

PRO TIP: getting the camera off your computer screen will keep the it from bouncing every time you tap your computer's keyboard.
  • You can make it not look up your nose. An external camera can be placed in the perfect location for the best angle of you or the area you want to share with other virtual meeting attendees.
  • The image will likely look better
  • It can double as a microphone, although that's still not the best audio option. Keep reading and you'll see why.
  • Not everyone has a laptop. If you're a desktop user, you'll need one of these to keep up with everyone else that's meeting online.
  • You can put it on an articulating arm or desktop tripod to make sure it's in exactly the right position.
  • You can plug it into your handy USB port expander. And, you'll need that because no one has enough USB ports.

Microphone

It's true. The only way you sound good when using your laptop's onboard microphone is when you're about four inches away from it. And, if you're sitting that close to your computer, we should be talking about your back and neck problems.

An external microphone can be moved to the perfect spot to capture your voice while your comfortable.

Plus, by attaching it to an articulating arm, you get it off your desktop and always have it ready for talking. The microphone we recommend also allows you to plug in your headphones. Even better, use the invisible in-ear headphones we use so everyone watching won't know you have earbuds in and you won't look like you're commanding a flight. As a bonus, your house and officemates will love you since they really don't want to hear every detail of your meeting to be honest. No one wants to hear your speakerphone conversation for an hour or two.
  • You'll sound better
  • No clutter on the desk with the articulating arm mount system
  • If you're ok with a little desk clutter, there's microphone  with a desk stand system
  • Always within reach and ready to go
  • Be a good house or officemate during online meetings by keeping them nice and quiet.

Lighting

Face it, the lights in your home office are probably great for doing some writing or computer work, but likely it's not ideal for looking good on camera.

Trust us, you'll probably want the light off your desk, so be sure to grab the floor stand for it. That's also where you'll attach your camera if you use the clamp arm option for your camera. By using the floor stand, the light and camera can be off the desk, eliminating clutter but keeping the gear ready to be used.

FLOOR STAND TIP: if your desk is flush against the wall, you may need to place the stand off to the side unless you can back your desk away from the wall about 12". If you can't adjust your desk, this will cause your camera to be attached to the light mount off to the side of your desk which may or may not be ideal. In this case, be sure to purchase the tall desk tripod in the camera section above.

PRO TIP: getting the light and camera off your desk will keep the camera and light from bouncing every time you lean on, tap, or kick your desk.

For those with a wall behind you, the small light will work, however, you'll still need the stand.

And if you have a solid, gigantic desk and no floor space, grab yourself the tabletop stand on the far right, top row.
